Prostate Health
Prostate cancer is common but there are some things men can do which generally fall into the category of healthy lifestyles.
1. undergo regular screening especially if you have a family history of prostate cancer or are Afro American.
2. test properly with the more accurate %free PSA blood test and not the total PSA.
3. adopt a healthy diet with low amounts of fat, salt and meat. Overweight men are at greater risk for a variety of additional medical issues.
-elevated levels of insulin and or obesity may be associated with prostate cancer
-stop smoking
-stop eating/drinking foods that may increase free radical damage
4. exercise is important for maintaining cardio health and blood flow. Weight loss is mostly through dieting and much less so through exercise.
5. supplements such as vitamin D (an antioxidant) may lower prostate cancer risk
-other natural supplements have not been scientifically proven to be beneficial yet in lowering the risk of developing
prostate cancer.
-it is unclear whether elevated levels of serum testosterone, free,DHT,androstanediol or estradiol alter the risk for prostate cancer.
